About Write to Shine

Carolyne Meehan and Katie O’Hara-Krebs created Write to Shine as a way to connect and inspire writers and "would-be" writers in the State College community. Both have a strong relationship with writing, personally and professionally: Carolyne through teaching English in public schools and publishing freelance pieces and Katie through writing creatively for clients in the marketing communications realm and online blogs.

Write to Shine offers creative writing workshops for writers of all kinds, even those who don’t consider themselves "a writer". Through their mindfulness workshops, writing is used as a tool to be more awake, aware and reflective in daily living. The monthly writers meeting fosters a supportive community and a safe space to share work, inspiration and promote accountability. Journal making workshops are for groups of all kinds- most often to build writing relationships between parents and children. Write to Shine works with individuals and groups to facilitate critical thinking about who they are and what they stand for, guiding them in manifesto and intentional writing activities.

So long as you write what you wish to write, that is all that matters; and whether it matters for ages or only for hours, nobody can say.
— Virginia Woolf, A Room of One's Own
